Describe the business, pick its NAICS class, and see which Canadian insurers and MGAs publish an appetite for it, with their contacts and application pages.
Why the class matters
Underwriters price and accept a risk by its class
The class sets the appetite
Each market writes some classes and declines others. Submitting under the wrong class wastes a quote cycle, or finds a market that would not have accepted the real operation.
The class sets the price
Rates, deductibles and required coverages follow the class. A café rated as a bakery, or a bar rated as a restaurant, is mispriced from day one.
A wrong class is a claim problem
If the operations on the application do not match the business, an insurer can deny a claim for misrepresentation, and the client may look to the broker.
NAICS and IBC codes
NAICS is Statistics Canada's official industry list, used here to describe the business. Canadian insurers usually rate on Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) codes, so ask each market which IBC code it will use.

For insurers and MGAs
Put your appetite in front of brokers at the moment they classify a risk
Get listed free, confirm your listing to show it as verified, or ask about a sponsored placement at the top of the classes you write. Sponsored placements are always labelled, and only appear on classes you actually write.
Listings show what each market publishes on its own website, checked on the date shown. Appetite and contacts change, so confirm with the market before you submit. NAICS data: Statistics Canada, NAICS Canada 2022 Version 1.0, under the Statistics Canada Open Licence. TrueNorthCE is not affiliated with the markets listed. Listings marked Sponsored are paid placements.
